This July, 29 youth from C4GOD Morristown and Christian Life Center joined together for SLAM Week, stepping out of their routines to serve, reflect, and grow. From July 15-20, they committed to meaningful projects across Nashville, diving into the week’s theme, "How Much It Cost." Guided by messages from Rylan Aaseby and rooted in Colossians 3:23, the participants explored what it means to serve wholeheartedly, pouring their energy and intention into each opportunity.
A Week of Purposeful Service
Every day brought new chances to connect with the community and make a difference through hands-on service:
The Bridge: Youth worked alongside community members, offering support and care to those in need.
Project C.U.R.E.: They organized essential medical supplies, preparing resources for those who rely on them.
The Branch: The group joined in food distribution efforts, making sure resources reached families and individuals facing food insecurity.
Madison Church of Christ Community Garden: Participants spent time in the garden, learning about sustainable practices and caring for the land alongside local volunteers.
Landscaping with MCL: The team helped beautify public spaces, gaining hands-on experience while bringing new life to the community.
Fifty Forward Food Distribution: They assisted in distributing food to elderly community members, offering practical help and friendly faces to brighten the day.
Through these projects, youth saw the impact of their work firsthand. Each moment reminded them that service is more than just tasks—it’s about presence, consistency, and showing up to meet real needs.
Lessons on Service and Sacrifice
The theme, "How Much It Cost," shaped the daily reflections, connecting each act of service to a desire to live like Jesus and embody His example of selfless love. Rylan Aaseby’s teachings emphasized a daily denial of self to serve others, encouraging participants to lay down their own comfort and priorities just as Jesus did. Each project and message reminded them that true service is rooted in this call to sacrifice, bringing both fulfillment and growth as they seek to impact the lives of others.
Looking Ahead
We’re grateful for the time spent with these young leaders, witnessing their growth in compassion, resilience, and community spirit. SLAM Week is just one step on their journey, and we’re excited to see how they carry these experiences forward, continuing to serve and make a difference.
Together, we’re empowering a generation with biblical values that they can learn to embody in service and care for others, understanding that real change begins with a choice to follow Jesus every day and do what He asks of us.
